Position Summary
The Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit (IQ) and Cultural Expertise Consultant provides Inuit cultural knowledge, guidance, and facilitation to support culturally safe and responsive health initiatives across Nunavut. This role ensures programs, materials, and engagement activities reflect Inuit values, language, lived experience, and Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles. In short; culture is not an afterthought here.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the development of culturally safe and culturally appropriate materials for health programs and initiatives in Nunavut
- Provide Inuit cultural perspectives, advice, and guidance for planning, projects, and implementation
- Identify, coordinate, and support engagement with Elders and Inuit cultural advisors; including subcontract coordination when required
- Facilitate or support multi-lingual workshops, meetings, and consultations in Inuktut and English, as appropriate
- Advise on culturally respectful and effective engagement approaches with Inuit communities and stakeholders
- Support meaningful community engagement and knowledge sharing aligned with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit principles
- Collaborate with internal teams, partners, and communities to strengthen culturally informed decision-making
Qualifications & Experience
- Demonstrated knowledge and applied experience with Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit and Inuit cultural practices
- Experience providing cultural advisory services within health, social services, or community-based environments
- Experience working respectfully with Inuit communities, Elders, and Inuit organizations
- Strong facilitation and communication skills; including experience in multi-lingual settings
- Ability to navigate and bridge cultural, organizational, and community systems
Preferred Qualifications
- Fluency in Inuktut; Inuktitut and/or Inuinnaqtun
- Experience supporting culturally safe health programs or community engagement initiatives
- Experience facilitating community consultations or participatory processes in Nunavut
