Contract Recruiter – Operational Leadership (Remote)
Location: Remote (Canada-based preferred)
Hours: ~20 hours/week to start (with peaks during interview cycles)
Contract: Ongoing / multi-cycle
About the role
We’re seeking an experienced contract recruiter / staffing partner to support the recruitment of senior operational leadership roles across multiple remote, fly-in communities within a public-sector–aligned organization.
This role focuses on hiring community-based operational leaders who oversee day-to-day service delivery and infrastructure within their respective locations. These are high-impact leadership positions where the quality of hiring directly affects continuity of operations.
What you’ll be responsible for
You’ll manage end-to-end recruitment for senior operational roles across multiple locations, including:
-
Developing and posting job ads (local, regional, or national scope depending on requirements)
-
Screening and shortlisting candidates
-
Coordinating and supporting virtual interview panels
-
Managing interview scoring and candidate evaluation
-
Conducting reference checks
-
Preparing and presenting decision-ready candidate recommendations
-
Maintaining candidate pipelines for anticipated vacancies (retirements, leaves, term roles converting to permanent)
How the process works
Each location operates under its own governance structure, so recruitment approaches vary:
-
Some decision-makers are hands-on and want visibility into resumes and interviews
-
Others delegate fully and rely on you to run the process and present top candidates
You’ll adapt your approach accordingly while partnering closely with regional leadership and HR stakeholders.
The operating environment
-
All roles are on-site, location-based positions in fly-in-only communities
-
Relocation and accommodations are provided for hires
-
Locations include both unionized and non-unionized environments (your focus is recruiting; HR/LR matters are escalated as needed)
-
Recruiting is supported by practical tools rather than a heavy ATS:
-
Shared OneDrive/SharePoint folders with historical competitions and templates
-
A centralized careers inbox
-
Teams-based communication and regular touchpoints
-
Why this role is compelling
-
High impact: You’re hiring leaders responsible for essential operations in remote communities.
-
True ownership: This is a full-cycle recruiting role with real autonomy.
-
Meaningful complexity: Every location and decision-making group is different, requiring thoughtful stakeholder management.
-
Structure without bureaucracy: You won’t be starting from zero—tools, templates, and clear points of contact are in place.
-
Long-term runway: This is ongoing work spanning multiple hiring cycles and fiscal years.
Who this role is best suited for
This role is ideal for someone who:
-
Is a senior recruiter comfortable running full-cycle recruitment independently
-
Has strong stakeholder management skills across varied decision-makers
-
Stays calm in ambiguous, fast-changing environments with fluctuating workload
-
Is comfortable recruiting operational and technical leadership roles, not just corporate or tech
-
Is culturally respectful, curious, and adaptable when working across diverse community contexts
Commitment & hours
-
Approximately 20 hours per week to start
-
Workload fluctuates based on interview schedules and hiring cycles
-
Fully remote; no travel required
