About the Opportunity
IntelliStaff Ltd. is partnering with an organization in Nunavik to support the search for an Assistant Director of Maintenance based in Kuujjuaq, Quebec. This leadership role supports the Municipal Public Works Department and plays an important part in ensuring the effective maintenance and operation of critical infrastructure including offices, airports, police stations, and employee housing.
This opportunity is ideal for an experienced maintenance or infrastructure leader who can guide teams, manage building operations, and contribute to the long-term sustainability of facilities in a northern and multicultural environment.
Role Overview
Reporting to the Director of the department, the Assistant Director helps oversee the maintenance and operation of organizational buildings across Nunavik. The role combines operational leadership, project coordination, budget management, and team supervision.
The successful candidate will support departmental planning, mentor maintenance personnel and coordinators, and help ensure that preventative and corrective maintenance practices are effectively implemented.
Key Responsibilities

Support the Director in the management and coordination of departmental maintenance activities.

Oversee maintenance operations for organizational buildings including offices, police stations, airports, and housing units.

Help ensure best practices in preventive and corrective maintenance across facilities.

Supervise, coach, and support maintenance coordinators and operational staff.

Assist with the preparation and monitoring of departmental budgets, timelines, and operational objectives.

Collaborate with infrastructure teams to coordinate major renovation and building improvement projects.

Ensure operational sections manage responsibilities such as storeroom management, cargo reception, and grounds maintenance.

Maintain clear communication with internal departments, maintenance staff, and Northern Village partners.

Support a collaborative and productive work environment within the department.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering, architecture, building studies, or a related field, or equivalent experience in building operations and maintenance.

Minimum 10 years of experience in building maintenance, construction, or renovation.

At least 5 years of leadership experience managing multidisciplinary teams.

Strong experience with budget preparation and monitoring.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office and SharePoint (experience with MaintainX or Sage is considered an asset).

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a multicultural and remote environment.

Ability to communicate in two of the following languages is considered an asset: English, French, or Inuktitut.

Willingness to travel within Nunavik as required.

Salary: $116,523 – $160,207 annually.
